About me
My name is Ali Vanderstar (she/her), and I offer both remediation and enrichment, meeting students exactly where they are and helping them build skills and develop confidence.
Since earning my Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University, I have been an educator for 30 years. Using my experience in the classroom, not only do I provide help in all areas of the curriculum, including reading, writing, and math, but I also support students’ executive functioning (organization, homework routines, study skills). I have worked with children ages 7 – 18, whether they need to learn states and capitals, memorize multiplication facts, or write essays for college applications.
Additionally, using my training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, in tandem with various other methods, I instruct students with language-based learning challenges, including listening, decoding, comprehension, and encoding.
My classroom is a dedicated space in my home that is welcoming and cheerful. I have two adult children, and I enjoy cooking, baking, and writing poetry and short stories.
